New syllabus and its undesirable effects

The launching of new syllabus by Nagaland University for the present degree students’ has many undesirable effects.

1. Non-availability of most prescribed text books, especially for major papers.

2. No clear syllabus.

3. Syllabus of some papers, like History, is very vast that lectures have to rush through.

4. No carry-over (back-paper) system. By failing in even one paper a student loses the entire year.

The new system may be good in good in itself but has left a bad taste in the mouth of the students.

Being the first batch to write exams under this system, we present our views which we expect the University authorities to consider favorably for the benefit of all the students.

1. Give a clear and fixed syllabus before the academic year begins.

2. Set question paper from within the prescribed syllabus.

3. The syllabus should be limited to what can be taught within the period of one year without having to rush-through.

4. The carry-over (back-paper) system could be continued for at least one paper.

5. Early declaration of results so that we can begin our classes early and cover the syllabus.

It is our humble request that the concerned authorities give a thought to our above mentioned views for the benefit of all and to enhance the quality of education in Nagaland University.
