Dimapur, May 8 (MExN): In the interest of the safety and security of the public and in order to minimise non-essential movement of the vehicles, a new traffic system will be followed in Dimapur from May 11 till 17.
The new system will be categories based on the registration number ending with odd numbers and even number on particular days:
• Odd Number Days: On every Monday, Wednesday and Friday only vehicle with registration number ending with odd numbers (e.g. 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9) will be allowed to ply.
• Even Number Days: On every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday only vehicles with registration number ending with even numbers (e.g. 2, 4, 6, 8 & 0) will be allowed to ply.
“This order will apply in areas covering the NH-29 and within the whole town area. This prohibition and restriction on movement of vehicles will however, not apply to those vehicles exempted through various government notifications that are currently in force in the state and Dimapur district,” Commissioner Police Dimapur, Rothihu Tetseo IPS stated in an order issued on May 8.
It also added that the violation of this prohibition and restriction order will be liable to be penalized under section 177 and 179 of the MV Act 1988. All citizens are therefore requested to abide by the prohibition and restriction order which is issued in the interest of public safety and convenience.
Pertaining to vehicular movements on Sunday, which is not been mentioned in the order, the CP Dimapur on inquiry told The Morung Express that vehicles with registration number ending with odd numbers can ply on Sunday.
