Maligaon, July 6 (MExN): Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) recorded a 9.6 per cent year-on-year growth in freight loading in June, transporting 0.968 million tonnes (MT) of goods and surpassing its monthly loading target by achieving 110 per cent of the goal.

According to an NFR statement issued on Monday, the zone registered significant growth across several major freight segments during the month.

Cement loading rose by 53.1 per cent over June last year, while loading of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) increased by 41.7 per cent. Coal loading grew by 37.5 per cent and the "Others" category recorded a 36.2 per cent increase.

Within the "Others" category, loading of stone chips registered a sharp growth of 275 per cent, reflecting increased movement of construction materials across the region, the statement said.

The cumulative freight loading for the April-June period of the current financial year stood at 2.931 MT, registering a 6.2 per cent increase over the corresponding period last year and achieving 109 per cent of the Railway Board's cumulative loading target.

The railway said the sustained rise in freight loading indicated growing economic and industrial activity across the Northeast and adjoining areas. It added that the increase had strengthened regional supply chains while contributing significantly to the zone's revenue.

NFR said it would continue to focus on technological advancement, operational efficiency and customer-oriented freight services to ensure reliable transportation and sustained growth in freight movement.
