Maligaon, April 22 (MExN): The General Manager of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, conducted a comprehensive inspection of the Bairabi–Badarpur and Badarpur–Patharkhola sections under Lumding Division on April 21 as part of an ongoing safety drive, with focus on infrastructural preparedness ahead of the monsoon season.
A detailed window trailing inspection of the tracks was carried out to assess track fitness and structural integrity. The exercise is aimed at identifying vulnerabilities and ensuring resilience of railway infrastructure against monsoon-related challenges such as waterlogging, soil erosion and track instability.
Shrivastava reviewed key safety parameters and directed officials to ensure stringent monitoring and timely maintenance interventions.
During the visit, he also inspected the newly constructed Sub-Divisional Training Centre and an Ultrasonic Flaw Detection (USFD) Laboratory at Badarpur, aimed at strengthening technical capabilities of railway personnel and improving efficiency of track inspection and defect detection systems.
He further inspected Badarpur railway station and reviewed ongoing development works.
The inspection gains significance in view of the strategically important railway connectivity project extending from Bairabi to Sairang in Mizoram. Commissioned in 2025, the link has enhanced regional connectivity and contributed to the economic integration of Mizoram with the rest of the country.
The introduction of railway connectivity to Sairang has boosted tourism and the state’s economy, while ensuring safety and robustness of the existing sections up to Bairabi remains critical as they form a vital link in the extended network.
