Maligaon, October 2 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) marked the commencement of the Gandhi Jayanti celebrations and Swachh Bharat Diwas activities as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Sewa 2026 campaign, observed under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”.

According to an official NFR update, the occasion began with a ceremonial lamp lighting and floral tributes paid to Mahatma Gandhi by NFR General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, alongside senior railway officials and staff at the General Manager's Office premises in Maligaon.

The programme highlighted Mahatma Gandhi's enduring message of cleanliness and the importance of collective participation in building a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment.

As part of the celebrations, General Manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava also inaugurated several key initiatives aimed at strengthening railway infrastructure and improving employee facilities.

These included launching an Electronic Interlocking Training Facility at the Specialized Training Centre in Pandu and opening the Goshala Model Staff Colony, accompanied by a plantation programme.

Concurrently, the NFR Construction Organisation observed the day with a ceremonial lamp lighting and floral tribute led by General Manager of NFR Construction, Ashish Bansal, in the presence of senior officials. Similar events were organized across various offices and project locations under the Construction Organisation, featuring tree plantation drives and the distribution of award certificates to Safai Mitras to recognize their valuable contributions toward maintaining cleanliness and hygiene on railway premises.

NFR is organizing a broad spectrum of activities throughout the campaign. These include intensive cleanliness drives at railway stations, tracks, railway colonies, and office premises; awareness campaigns for passengers and local communities; interactive sessions and workshops for railway staff; cleanliness pledges; and special initiatives focused on identifying, segregating, and properly disposing of unserviceable materials.

Through coordinated efforts across its headquarters, all five divisions, and the Construction Organisation, the Northeast Frontier Railway is reinforcing the message that cleanliness is a collective responsibility.

The observance of Swachh Bharat Diwas serves as a key reminder of Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean India, reaffirming NFR's commitment to a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable railway environment through continuous public engagement and action.
