Dimapur, February 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Gaon Bura Federation (NGBF) has urged the Government of Nagaland to implement the demand of Join Committee for Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) and enact the report of the Banuo’s Commission on RIIN into an Act without further delay.
“To register the indigenous inhabitant of the State of Nagaland, the cut-off year of 1-12-1963 should be maintained. However, it is of immense importance to disclose the Commission’s report to the civil society before it becomes an act,” the Federation stated in a press release.
The NGBF is also of the opinion that the Government of Nagaland should pass Banou's Commission report on RIIN into an Act during the ensuing Assembly Winter Session that is to commence from February 12.
It also said that every citizen must have distinct rights as per the law of the land. “It is important to identify and categorise so that no rightful citizen is deprived of their rights, which makes it all the more important to implement the same urgently. This will also greatly help dispense justice to those already delayed in receiving their right,” NGBF asserted.
DDVCCA: The Dimapur District Village Council Chairmen’s Association (DDVCCA) also said that it strongly support the stand adopted by Joint Committee for Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) in regard to enactment of Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN) by tabling the Banuo Commission report into the house this assembly session for in-depth deliberation and legislate into an act.
The Association in a press statement observed that the issue of illegal immigrants flooding the NE States is alarming. A NE state is now dominated by illegal immigrants and the indigenous inhabitants are today minority in their own state.
Lest our state face such a dreaded situation, “a stich in time will save nine,” cautioned the DDVCCA.
Meanwhile, the DDVCCA also appealed to “all the elected representatives to collectively apply their wisdom and not fail the future of people. The importance and severity of this issue should not be narrowed to party colours but evolve a consensus.”
DDVCCA also endorsed the December 1, 1963 as cut-off year for registration of RIIN. “Compromise on year later than 1963 would undo the whole essence of identifying indigenous inhabitants therefore date and year of statehood (16th State in Union of India) is most appropriate and convenient which the legislature should consider,” it added.
