NH-29 landowners union says they are entitled to land compensation

DIMAPUR, JUNE 1 (MExN): The Landowners Union NH-29 (Purana Bazaar-Chümoükedima) has taken umbrage to the statement issued by the Chakhroma GBs Union (CGBU) that some undesired elements claiming land compensation was hampering the ongoing 4-lane road construction between Purana Bazaar and Chümoükedima.

In a rejoinder issued on Saturday, the Union clarified that it is not concerned as to whose jurisdiction or territorial area the National Highway from Purana Bazar- Chümoükedima falls in. It however said its concern was confined to right to compensation for landowners, as is being applied in all of Nagaland.

The Union also sought to point out that it has not encroached government’s land but rather the government has encroached landowner’s land in the name of Right Of Way (ROW), while alleging that the government was trying hard to enforce this without the knowledge of the concerned landowners.

The Union therefore wanted to know whether this ROW is applied only from Purana Bazaar-Chümoükedima stretch of road or is applied to all of Nagaland while paying compensation.
