Zunheboto, August 19 (MExN): The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Zunheboto, has temporarily closed a section of National Highway-702A along the Zunheboto-Mokokchung Road at New Colony following road damage and landslides caused by incessant rainfall.
According to a travel advisory issued by Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman Dharam Raj, IAS, the affected stretch will remain closed until further orders in the interest of public safety.
All vehicles travelling between Zunheboto and Mokokchung in both directions, including heavy vehicles, loaded trucks, pick-up vehicles, light vehicles and commercial vehicles, have been directed to use the Old Mokokchung Road/Check Post Road as an alternative route.
The DDMA has urged the public and commuters to strictly adhere to the advisory, follow traffic signages and comply with instructions issued by officials deployed at the affected site.
The closure comes amid worsening ground movement and major cracks along NH-702A at New Colony, where nearby houses have also been affected by the unstable ground.
The advisory has been issued as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety pending restoration and further assessment of the damaged road stretch.
