A Maj Gen of NSCN (IM) absconding, further investigation on, says NIA
DIMAPUR, JANUARY 28 (MExN): Even as investigation into the killing of Arunachal Pradesh MLA Tirong Aboh continues, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed charge-sheet against four persons arrested in connection to the killing. Another person, who was said to have formed the group that carried out the killing, remains absconding.
Aboh, his son and 9 others were assassinated in an ambush on May 21, 2019 near Khonsa just days before the state’s Assembly election result was declared. He defeated Phawang Lowang of the Bharatiya Janata Party when the results were out on May 23.
An NIA press release issued on January 28 stated that it filed charges against 4 accused— Luckin Mashangva, Jai Kishan Sharma, Yangte Josaham and Napong Jenpi on January 27. The NIA took over the case from the Arunachal Pradesh Police on June 10, 2019.
As per the release, the ambush occurred near Pansum Thong village, Tirap district as Aboh, alongwith 10 others, was moving to Khonsa from Dibrugarh, Assam. “In the incident, a total of 11 persons including MLA, Khonsa, Tirong Aboh, were killed while three other persons sustained injuries,” it said.
It said that investigation has established that members of the NSCN (IM) “conspired” to kill Aboh and the killing was “a result of (a) larger conspiracy due to opposition by MLA, Khonsa of anti development and extortion activities of NSCN (IM) in Tirap District.”
It further stated that the assailants led by one Major General Absolom of the NSCN (IM), were financed by Jai Kishan Sharma to carry out the ambush. It was reported in the news in August 2019 that Sharma, a businessman based in Khonsa, was arrested in Dimapur by the Nagaland Police in an extortion-related case.
The release added that Absolom was still absconding and further investigation in the case continues.
