NLA session pays tributes to Yhoshü, Torechu & others

The 5th session of the 13th Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) observed two minute silence and paid respect to the departed leaders on January 17. Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio made obituary reference to the passing away of Vikho-o Yhoshu while NLA speaker-in-charge Sharingan Longkumer made obituary reference on the passing away of Netsutso Theyo- ex-MLA, Lutjakai Kuki- ex IBM, Z Katity- ex-MLA and T Torechu, sitting MLA.

 

 

Vikho-O Yhoshü
Vikho-o Yhoshü passed away at a Mumbai hospital in 2019. He was 67 and is survived by his wife, 10 children– four sons and six daughters and seven grandchildren. He entered politics and successfully contested the 2008 general election on NPF ticket and got elected to the 11th NLA from 14 Southern Angami-1 Assembly constituency. Yhoshü was re-elected to the 12th NLA from the same constituency on NPF ticket. He got re-elected for the third consecutive time in 2018 from the same Constituency on NDPP ticket and was elected as NLA speaker on March 13, 2018.

 

T Torechu

NPF legislator T Torechu passed away at CIHSR, Dimapur. He left behind his wife, six sons and one daughter. He was 71. Torechu did his early education from Pungro government school, higher secondary from GHS Tuensang and pursued higher studies from Fazal Ali College, Mokokchung. Before joining active politics, Torechu served as government teacher and also held several posts in various organisations. Torechu won four consecutive elections from 2003 (as BJP) and from NPF ticket in 2008, 2013 and 2018. In 1982 Torechu lost as an Independent and in 1987 he lost as NNDP candidate.

 

N Theyo

Former Minister N Theyo passed away at 82 after a brief illness. He is survived by 3 sons and 4 daughters and 27 grandchildren. Theyo was inducted as minister for transport & communication, community & tribal development, blocks & town planning in 1972. Before entering politics, Theyo was associated with students' union. "On his death the Naga community has lost a humble leader whose absence will be difficult to replace." Speaker-in-Charge said.

 

 

Lutjakai Kuki

Lutjakai Kuki, former Interim Board Member (IBM) passed away on October 13 at Zion Hospital, Dimapur. Kuki was born in 1931 and educated at Tesangki government aided ME School. Lutjakai Kuki became a member of Interim Body and represented the Kukis from 1961-1963. Lutjakai Kuki was elected as chairman of United Democratic Front (UDF) Athibung area from 1975-1980. He took active part in the developmental activities in Athibung town till his last breath. The Speaker-in-Charge said that his sincere and extensive contribution to the citizens of Nagaland was duly recognised and honoured on the 50th year of Nagaland statehood celebration at Kisama on December 1, 2013.

 

 

Z Katiry

Before entering into politics, ex-MLA, Katiry worked as Headmaster in private Middle English School at Phor and Akhegwo village, served as Extra Assistant Commissioner, President Pochury Public Forum and Member of Nagaland Peace Council. He was 63 and is survived by his wife, five sons and one daughter. “He was a dynamic leader and on his death, the State has lost a statesman and the vacuum left will be hard to fill.”
