Dimapur, July 3 (MExN): The Naga Mothers’ Association (NMA) has reiterated its stand on the decision taken by the unit organizations, on the implementation of the 33% reservation for women in all Towns and Municipal Councils in Nagaland, in accordance with the Municipal Amendment Act 2006. NMA President, Abei-u Meru and Secretary Lochumbeni Humtsoe in a press note expressed that women represents half the population and therefore, the constitutional and fundamental rights of women cannot be denied. “It is essential to integrate women in the decision making body to recognize the contribution of women to the cause of nation building,” the duo stated. NMA stated further that it “seriously viewed the active participation of women and contribution to social development to restore trust and confidence.”
