NEW DELHI, DEC 27 (UNI): The government today described as ‘’without any basis’’ the reports that Mr Michael C van Walt van Praag from the Netherlands had been nominated to mediate between the centre and the NSCN (IM).
A statement issued by Oscar Fernandes, Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, who is also conducting talks with the NSCN (IM), said the government and the Naga outfit were engaged in talks and the question of appointing a mediator did not arise.
“The government of India wishes to clarify that the report that Michael C van Walt van Praag is being appointed as a mediator, is without any basis.
“The government of India and the NSCN(IM) are engaged in talks on the Naga issue and the question of appointing a mediator does not arise and no mediator has been appointed,’’ the statement said.
