Dimapur, November 2 (MExN): Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has hit back at Education Minister, Nyeiwang Konyak for his demand that Luizinho Faleiro, General Secretary, AICC in charge of Nagaland tender ‘unconditional apology’ to him. A statement from the Media Cell NPCC clarified that Faleiro did not utter the word ‘dowry’ as being alleged by the Minister and so the question of tendering an ‘unconditional apology’ does not arise.
The note from NPCC stated that the Faleiro attended the last leg of NPCC district tour on October 28 at Dimapur, where he exhorted the party men and women. Faleiro, while citing an example of how Government sanctioned money meant for the people at the grass root level was being spent in Nagaland, mentioned how the Education Minister ‘doled out’ the money in his tour to many places as guest, which he has admitted in the floor of the House. NPCC stated that the Education Minister claimed to have been taken the money from the grant-in-aid for infrastructure development of private schools NPCC stated: “The honorable Minister may have either misunderstood or he may have been misquoted by the media the word ‘doled’ as in being distributed or ‘dole-out’ as in being shared with.”
NPCC claimed that the Education Minister admitted that he signed an APR(actual payment receipt) on March 23, 2010 and drew Rs. 51,00,000 (fifty one lakhs) during 2009-10. The aforementioned amount was taken against the release of Rs. 5, 35,13,000 (five crore thirty five lakhs thirteen thousand) in March 2009-10. An amount of Rs. 1,34,13,000 (one crore thirty four lakhs thirteen thousand) is still missing since an amount Rs. 4,01,00,000 (four crore one lakh) has been released including the infamous amount of Rs. 51,00,000 (fifty one lakhs) which was taken by the Education Minister, NPCC claimed.
NPCC further claimed that during 2009-10 an amount of Rs. 54,98,000 (fifty four lacs ninety eight thousand) was released as grant in aid to special institutions, out of which the Education Minister took Rs. 11,18,000 (eleven lacs eighteen thousand) as @10% and again against another release he took Rs. 4,93,000/-(four lacs ninety three thousand). NPCC claimed that the Education Minister admitted on the floor of the house during the 8th & 9th Session of the NLA but he did not furnish the list of expenditure despite having promised to do so. In this connection, the NPCC stated it has been continuously raising the same issue and have even conducted ‘Dharna’ at Raj Bhavan and has submitted a representation to Governor of Nagaland to remove the Minister for his unbecoming act as Minister.
NPCC added that if Konyak is a man of integrity as he professed to be, he should be sensible enough to resign honorable by now before an FIR is lodged against him for embezzlement of public money. The NPCC on its part has no hesitation in battling the issue with the honorable Minister, School Education in the Court of Law, it added.
