The District Task Forces (DTFs) have now been empowered to locally identify and take decisions on lockdown and containment measures of wards and colonies in their respective districts, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio informed today.
Interacting with media after a Cabinet meeting at the Secretariat on July 27, he said that the High Powered Committee was formed for logistics arrangements at the quarantine centres with the returnees coming in big groups.
However, with the reduction in numbers, the DTFs are now fully authorised and that the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police have been directed to extend all possible help to the districts, Rio added.
While admitting there were few lapses in the initial days, Rio claimed that things are going well now after rectification. He also expressed appreciation to frontline workers for their efforts and hard work.
Rio also observed though cases are on the rise in Nagaland, most infections are asymptomatic with some mild cases.
They are being handled very well, he maintained.
Five deaths ‘very unfortunate’
Meanwhile, Rio termed the 5 reported deaths in the state associated with current pandemic as ‘very unfortunate. He, however, pointed out that some were elderly persons and the others were people from outside the state.
The Chief Minister also appreciated the support extended by the various communities, and was optimistic that things would be controlled in the coming days.
As per official data, the 5 deaths reported from Dimapur are yet to be established as due to COVID-19 and “under investigation for establishing whether they are COVID-19 related deaths.”
At the same time, Rio also reiterated on the need to follow the standard operating procedures, maintaining social distancing and wearing of mask and other hygiene practices.
