The Department of Botany and Chemistry, Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung contributed to the drive against COVID-19 by preparing hand sanitisers using specifications prescribed by the WHO to ameliorate the scarcity and the exorbitant market prices of the same.

The product which was prepared at five-times cheaper than the commercial variant was packed in recycled cosmetic dispensers collected from amongst the college fraternity which was sterilized by autoclaving and distributed to the district administration, religious places and hospitals.

Earlier, Tiamongla, Vice Principal, FAC also handing over the lab prepared hand sanitisers to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police of Mokokchung during the District Task Force on COVID-19 meeting held on March 18.

Tiatemsu, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, FAC who came up with the idea and initiated the project says, “We use self made sanitisers so thought of sharing the same in the college and hostels. Since we had some leftover chemicals, we went some further more than our initial programme.”

“We have ordered chemicals for about 60 litres vide contribution from the College and departmental faculty,” he informed The Morung Express.

The college plans to produce more sanitizers and the same will be distributed to banks, ATM booths, commercial vendors and traffic police personnel in the coming days.

The initiative is supported by the departmental laboratory fund and contribution by some faculty members.
