NPCC asks Nagaland Govt to relieve NSCM & CF Ltd Chairman from post

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Committee (NPCC) has called upon the Nagaland Government to relieve the Chairman of the Nagaland State Co-operative Marketing and Consumer Federation (NSCM & CF) Ltd from his position alleging that the official was involved in a case regarding smuggling of Areca nuts.

A press release from the Communications Department, NPCC, said that police caught 23 MT of Areca nuts in a consignment of Nagaland State Co-operative Marketing and Consumer Federation Ltd in the middle of February 2022. The case reported to pertain to an illegal consignment, has been registered with police at Guwahati according to news reports, it stated.

The NPCC alleged that Dr M Chuba Ao, Chairman, NSCM&CF Ltd, who is also National Vice President of BJP, “is the main person behind the smuggled consignment.”

“In his official writing pad as Chairman NSCM&CF Ltd., he issued strict order prohibiting verification and checking along the route to Delhi from Dimapur. His order further says any violation will be imprisoned for 6 months or a fine of Rs. 10,00,000. Copy of the said letter was sent to Ministry of Railway and GM Northeast Railway, Malegaon, Guwahati,” the NPCC alleged. It questioned with what authority the order was issued.

“The GST invoice says the Areca nuts are a local product and are being transported to Delhi. Government of Nagaland has remained mute,” it stated. The NPCC said that this is a case of abuse of power and misuse of position. It further claimed that the “evidence of the misuse is in police custody.”

The party further stated that the NSCM&CF Ltd Chairman should have resigned on his own. “To save the image of Nagaland people, we demand from the government relieve Dr M Chuba Ao from Chairmanship NSCM & CF Ltd and enable police to proceed with the case against his misconduct,” it demanded.
