NPCC concurs with Governor’s assessment; sees ‘hope’

Kohima, June 28 (MExN): The NPCC today concurred with Nagaland Governor’s assessment and said the latter had “correctly assessed the law and order situation.”

“There is some hope,” the Nagaland Congress Committee (NPCC) stated in a press release issued by its President K Therie.

The party further said that ever since regional party adopted the “policy to merely facilitate and support the ongoing dialogue on 19th August 2005, it has gone beyond the prescription of the Constitution. Rather, they have abandoned the Constitution and laws of the land.

The NPCC further alleged that running of “parallel Governments” and forced collections were accepted.

It also alleged instances of kidnapping, assassination, fines, confiscation and forceful occupations of lands.

“Red handed extortionists and murderers were arrested with unauthorised weapons but were released without trial of cases,” it added.

Further, the NPCC maintained that when “public come to Government for shelter,” they were reportedly directed to “compromise with extortionists” and “administrators were used as mediators to compromise.”

It further maintained that all “development Departments share development funds.”

“Funds released under Art 275(1) to be utilized for construction of 223 buildings across Nagaland have vanished while the said buildings do not exist,” it alleged, without further elaboration.

“No contractor or supplier is free from paying commissions,” it said. The NPCC also accused the police of sitting together with “tax collectors” at all the gates “across all towns, in both ‘in’ and ‘out’ gates.”

“As a result, Nagaland State does not have any industry while continuous extortion has strangled the growth of economy in the State,” it said.

“Regional Government is responsible for the all round systemizing of illegal taxes,” NPCC said.
