NPCC offers to pay for return tickets of migrant workers

DIMAPUR, MAY 8 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has written to the Nagaland Chief Secretary to provide the party with a list of all needy workers and migrant labourers currently in the State and wishing to return home so that the party can pay for their return rail tickets.

This comes following the Indian National Congress’s decision to take responsibility for the payment of return rail tickets for all needy workers and migrant labourers wishing to travel to their homes.

In his letter to the Chief Secretary, the NPCC President, K Therie informed that the party is also identifying such individuals and reaching out to them. Most workers and migrant labourers have applied to the SDO (civil)/ District Magistrates to help facilitate their return journeys, he added.

The NPCC President said that the party would deposit the necessary amount with the Chief Secretary directly. He further informed the nodal persons for this initiative is Captain GK Zhimomi, General Secretary & Chairman, Task Force for COVID-I 9, NPCC.  “It is the duty of every Indian to stand by our workers and migrant labourers. It is indeed heart breaking that their return journey, which could have been handled with ease and grace, has been allowed to escalate to such levels due to the mercantile and apathetic attitude of the Central Government as also the Railways,” the NPCC President stated.
