NPF blames govt for power failures

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 10 (MExN): The Naga People’s Front (NPF) today came down strongly on the deplorable power supply in the state, lamenting that “consumers continue to reel in the summer heat with no sign of relief from the concerned department.”

A press note from the NPF Press Bureau expressed concern that there is not a single day that passes without a power break down.

“Nagaland being a power consuming state has never faced such kind of power scarcity in recent years. The present PDA government is responsible and answerable to the people for the recent chaotic development in the power sector,” it said.

The NPF pointed out that “unlike the dry season, there can never be an excuse on lean season as the same power engineers were there in the department along with its staff making all effort for good power supply in the state and the consumers will be clearing their dues as before.”

While acknowledging that power consumption may have increased “a little,” it however noted that “there is always a state power purchase system which can never be decreased at all.” “The summer rain or for that matter, the inclement weather are natural features that pass every year, yet power supply in the state was never like this year under the PDA Government,” it claimed.

The NPF called upon the government to realize how the people of the state are living day to day with power irregularities.

“Student appearing examinations, hospitals, industries sector, business communities, emergency related issues and so forth are facing a great hardship,” it said, and expressed frustration that the present government “has become very callous and has not taken due cognizance to improve the electricity supply.”

It demanded improvement of power supply without further delay “if the PDA Government really wants to keep alive their infamous slogan, ‘Change is Coming.’”
