NPF urges to lift AFSPA from entire Nagaland immediately

‘NPF belongs to the Naga people,’ asserts COB 

Kohima, February 5 (MExN): The Central Office Bearers (COB) of Naga People’s Front (NPF) on Saturday urged the Government of India to lift AFSPA from the entire Nagaland immediately and also repeal the draconian Act from the entire North East region as well. 

The party resolved to make the demand during its emergency meeting at its Central Office Kohima on February 5. 
On the Naga Political issue, it resolved to urge the GOI and the Naga negotiating parties to come to a logical conclusion at the earliest, stated an update issued by the Press Bureau, NPF. 

The house welcomed the resolution of the working committee in extending invitation to the regional parties to come together in the larger interest of the people. It also endorsed the President to decide the date and venue of the General Convention of the party as it is already due to be summoned. 

It resolved to work for the success of the NPF candidates in Manipur 12th Legislative Assembly Election 2022 and appealed “to all the NPF ticket aspirant who were denied the party ticket to kindly extend support to the NPF official Candidates.”

Meanwhile, it appreciated the UDA Government for according recognition to Tikhir tribe as one of the recognised tribe of Nagaland.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, the Central Working President, Apong Pongener reminded the meeting that the NPF belongs to the Naga people and the party itself represents the identity and the desire of the Naga people.

While lauding the party rank and file for always standing firm for the cause and interest of the Naga people, the Working President called upon the party leaders to remain steadfast in their stand inspite of facing any odds then certainly, the people will have trust in them for the safety of the future.

Talking on the upcoming Assembly election in Manipur, Apong Pongener said that the NPF has set up only 10 candidates but believed that all the ticket holders were strong candidate and hope will emerge victoriously.

He expressed regret that the party could not conduct the party General Convention for the last three years due to pandemic but said that it should be held soon since the General Election the Nagaland Legislative Assembly also only a year away.

The Secretary General, Achumbemo Kikon also briefed the meeting how the 10 candidates of the party for the Manipur election was selected stating that 40 ticket applicants were received by the party. He also said that even in non Naga tribal areas, many aspirant candidates seek the NPF ticket but the party has zeroed down to 10 seats only, he added.

The meeting was chaired by Senior Vice President, Pusazo Lürüo while invocation prayer was pronounced by Senior Vice President, Tsumongo Ovung and vote of thanks was delivered by General Secretary, Povotso Lohe.

Later, a business hour was taken place where many leaders spoke various issues confronting to the development of the parties and also gave suggestion on various issues pertaining to the betterment of the party.
