NPSC floats advt for 10 EAC posts

Dimapur | August 6 : NPSC has already floated advertisement for filling up of 10 EAC posts (Junior Grade) NCS against 10 less represented tribes granting them one post each, as published in the local dailies on August 6. This Special Recruitment drive was based on the Cabinet decision which appeared in the local dailies on May 27, 2011.
The 10 tribes for whom the EAC posts have been specially reserved are: Rengma, Chakhesang, Pochury, Zeliang, Sangtam, Yimchunger, Khiamniungan, Chang, Phom and Konyak.
NSF not to allow issue of Forms; tribal units oppose
However, the NSF and its other tribal units have firmly opposed the Cabinet decision on the ground that it gave undue privilege to certain tribes and that the decision could lead to further division among the already fragmented Nagas.
Speaking over phone NSF general secretary, N. Ejanthung Ngullie said that the Federation will not allow the NPSC to issue the Application Forms for the 10 EAC posts. He disclosed that the NSF will be at the NPSC office on Monday to see that not a single Form was issued. It was decided during the August 5 NSF Federal Assembly, that the conduct of Special Recruitment drive for the 10 EAC posts will not allowed before discussing the matter with the Government. Ejanthung said that the NSF will stick to its principle demand for total review of the job reservation policy.
This particular issue was also extensively discussed during the NSF good will tour to various district headquarters and Naga inhabited areas in Manipur from June 20-27.
The NSF had said that the decision to hold the special NCS recruitment drive was against and outside the reservation policy and reiterated its demand for total review of the policy on area and pocket wise and not on tribal lines. NSF said that the Cabinet decision has hurt the sentiments of other tribes due to which it asserted that the decision was a “divisive policy.”
The Special Recruitment drive was also vehemently opposed by the Kyong Students’ Union (KSU), Angami Students’ Union (ASU), Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and All Sumi Students’ Union (SKK). Even as the Rengmas were also reserved 1 EAC post, the Rengma Students’ Union (RSU) said it was confused as to why the Government had included them under the Special recruitment drive. RSU president Kenneth Keth said the government, without properly analyzing the issue, had adopted the policy of “pick and choose.” He said the Rengmas were not excited for giving them 1 EAC post.
KSU president, Subenthung Kithan said that the Union was “totally opposed” to the Cabinet decision and demanded revocation of the decision.
The AKM also said it “strongly opposed” to the decision. Stating that the Special Recruitment drive was further dividing the Nagas, the SKK president Nihoyi Kinnimi said it will not allow such “divisive and one-sided policy” and demanded that the cabinet decision be immediately revoked. The ASU president said it will not compromise on the special reservation for the 10 tribes as it deprived the rest of the tribes.
The NSF and the mentioned tribal units were also mutual in stating that the recent enhancement of the reservation quota was an “injustice” as it was done at the expense of the remaining Naga tribes, at a time when the students were demanding total review of the reservation policy.
During the interaction in Phek, the Chakhesang representatives supported the decision of the state Cabinet and added that they take the Special Recruitment drive as a “gift” from the government to the backward tribes to bring them at par with the rest of the Naga tribes. However, this decision was not received well by other Naga tribes stating the Government was granting “double reservation” to certain tribes.
As per the advertisement published on August 6, the Application Forms for the 10 EAC posts will be issued starting August 8 with the last date for submission of the Form set for August 26.
