NRE Dept to take up solar power plant installations

The Nagaland State Department of New & Renewable Energy is set to install standalone solar power plants in government buildings, public institutions, panchayat/village council buildings etc.

This was informed in the Annual Administrative Report 2020-21 of the New & Renewable Energy Department tabled in the recent state assembly session.

The standalone solar power plants with capacity up to 25 KW will be installed under the off-grid and decentralised solar PV application programme, Phase-III, of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Government of India.

The report stated that the department will also take up off-grid standalone solar water pumps under the PM- KUSUM scheme of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. This programme, which will benefit the farmers, is expected to be continued in the year 2021-22, the report stated.

The department is also proposing to take up installation of 12 MW solar power plants at the Industrial Growth Centre in Ganeshnagar, Dimapur to meet the energy demand required for the industrial units by injecting the power to the main grid.

The department shall also take up 11 MW solar plant project at New Jalukie, Peren as part of the developmental works under state resources.

Under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Solar Mission, all the off-grid solar power programmes initiated by the Ministry for implementation in the state during the year 2021-22 shall be taken up for execution by the department, the report added.

Meanwhile, the construction of the New & Renewable Energy Directorate building at New Secretariat Complex area is at the final stage of completion, the report informed.

The directorate building is expected to be completed by end of April 2021.
