The baseless claim by Maj. Atoshe and Dy. Kilonser Luna Kuki affirming the intactness of Athibung camp definitely exposes its own position of complete desertion and the state of fear and uncertainty looming overhead.
It is painful to expose the vagabond character of Maj. Atoshe, but instead of remaining low, he chooses to blow his own trumpet and shamelessly criticizing the NSCN/GPRN, without bothering how he has been rescued from the jaws of death when hunted by IM group.
It may be recollected that Atoshe became the hired killer and personally assassinated all the Tangkhuls involved in the bomb blast of some Naga politician family in Dimapur.
After a long spell of mercenary activities he could no longer afford to lead a normal public life as he was constantly haunted by fear of reprisals from the families of those he murdered and particularly by IM group.
It was at this juncture the NSCN took him back in its fold purely on humanitarian ground despite his past records of disloyalty, betrayal, etc.
It is also pertinent to inform the Nagas of his true persona. He has defected in between the two NSCNs for eight times. Way back in 1997, after amassing crores through ransoms from kidnapped businessmen in and around Dimapur and when the government summoned him for explanation, he, in order to evade apparent punishment, conspired with his brother Azheto Chophi, the then Chairman UT-1, and defected to IM with government properties worth millions, which were earned by blood and lives of patriots. But true to his colour, he again left IM and became a mercenary.
In connection with his assertion that the NSCN//GPRN resorted to spread propaganda on desertion of 14 Kuki cadres with 17 weapons, thousands of rounds of ammo, including even the reserved stock and explosives, the remaining handful of cadres were left with only 5 nos. of bolt action rifles. Among these, two were malfunctioning and unused.
The fact that Maj. Atoshe, even after the 7th June secession by Khehoi camp till date has been excluding the earlier 8 time escapades, for the third time changed loyalties. Still, it was Atoshe himself who, on his own volition, offered his support and asked to publish his name in the print media and, as demanded, pay him Rs.1,50,000 (Rupees one lakh fifty thousand) for urgent needs. And on having received the cash, remained incommunicado for two-three days and as usual negotiated with Khehoi camp for higher stakes and when agreed upon, rejoined Khehoi.
The loyal NSCN/GPRN cadres stationed there, on learning of the treachery committed by Maj. Atoshe, were disheartened and made off with every serviceable weapons, allotted and reserved ammunitions and explosives, and reached Manipur and presently taking tactical formation with KRA. Maj. Atoshe was comfortably gambling in Dimapur with the ‘wages of treason’ earned through his bold and brazen business venture when the desertion occurred. Most of the remaining cadres have also left Athibung and joined up with us in Mon and Suruhoto. The facts of the incident can be verified from Athibung public.
The instability of a person like Atoshe is quite obvious – that if we offer him financial bonus, he would, anytime, come to us. However, such followers, rather than accepting again into the fold, should be rejected and left alone to be caught up by his own past crimes. It is for the security concerns of his innocent family that many of his dastard inhuman murders and vilest of crimes were committed against even the lady cadres of another faction somewhere in the recent past during his last brief stint with us purely on his own vengeful judgment without and without consultation or approval from the higher-ups.
Unless Atoshe admits to his own conspiracy instead of trying to malign the NSCN/GPRN’s image, all his crimes against humanity in the name of national work shall be heralded from the rooftops for all the Nagas to know of the real Atoshe. Athibung, as of now, has been deserted but the demands and the support of the Kuki brothers including the almost 90% general public who have been with us and still being with us through thick and thin, we assure that on our part the NSCN shall never abandon them and, jointly with the people of Athibung, shall restore normalcy, confidence and protection.
