Kohima, November 11 (MExN): The Nagaland State Legal Services Authority (NSLSA) under the aegis of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) observed National Legal Services Day on November 9 as part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Pan India Awareness and Legal Services Week.
According to a press release from the NSLSA, Kiphire DLSA commemorated the day at Government High School, Kiphire wherein retainer lawyer Bendangwati Sangtam spoke on the importance and functions of legal services. Senior Principal at GHS Kiphire YP Singh encouraged the participants to be active in the activities in order to acquire better legal knowledge and also acknowledged all the LLC teacher-in-charges as well as LLC members for their positive response. All together 75 persons from five Legal Literacy Club schools, Agape High School, Saramati High School, El-Beth High School, GHS Kiphire, GHS Yangphi and teaching staff participated in the programme.
Dimapur DLSA conducted a Mini Legal Camp at the Deputy Commissioners Complex, Dimapur during which Dimapur DLSA Secretary and CJM Seyielenuo Mezhü highlighted the importance of Legal Services Act and how legal services came into existence. The camp was open for the general populace and included free legal counseling, free affidavits and drafting of application of any kind were provided. The release stated that around 37 beneficiaries availed free services from the said camp.
In Longleng too, a Mini Legal Services camp was held at the Court Complex. During the inaugural session, Secretary LDLSA highlighted on the different schemes available under Legal Services Authority, while the Project Assistant urged the participants to utilise the services at the camp. Citizens were also requested to visit the frontal office for any grievances while video clips on the RTE Act, Food Security Act, Pension Schemes under Social Welfare Department and Lok Adalat were displayed. The State Bank of India also participated to sensitise the attendees on the various schemes like PMSPY, PMJJPY, APY, NPS and Zero Account. Free affidavits were also made available to the beneficiaries wherein 33 participants were benefited, the release stated.
In Phek district, a legal awareness programme was conducted at Chozuba sub-division during which ADC Theodore Yanthan delivered a short speech. Resource persons Samuel Ritse, PP briefed on the topics POCSO Act 2012 and RTE 2009 while Keneinuo Swuro, PA shared on the Social Welfare Schemes and Lok Adalat. PDLSA Secretary Cheliam Khiamniungan spoke on the function of Legal Services and National Food Security Act 2013 during the programme which witnessed the participation of 96 representatives from 16 villages and 1 town.
According to the NSLSA release, the Tuensang DLSA organised a seminar on ‘Anti-Ragging and Sexual Harassment-Prevention Prohibition and Redressal’ with the IQAC, Anti-Ragging and Internal Committee of Sao Chang College. Advocate Soteth Anar spoke on the topic ‘Anti-Ragging’ and Retainer Lawyer Antimangyang Chang elaborated on the topic ‘Sexual Harassment: Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal.’ Judicial Magistrate and TDLSA Secretary TDLSA Kumdilong Kessen shared about the court procedure and vote of thanks was delivered by IQAC Coordinator Dr Santosh Kumar Singh. All together 300 beneficiaries attended the programme.
For Wokha district, a Mini Legal Camp was held at Chukitong Range covering 6 villages. Khrievono Seletsu delivered the keynote address; EAC Chukitong Echungbemo Erui delivered the inaugural address while highlights on WDLSA and mini-camp activities were given Advocates Meribemo A Lotha and Shanchobeni P Lotha. During the Camp, Legal Help Desk was opened for general public where free legal counselling, legal draftings, applications, free pamphlets, etc., were provided by Advocate Gracy Ezung and other panel lawyers. Free registration to undergo vocational training were done by DDU-GKY under Ministry of Rural Development, free medical checkup and medicines, free blood group testing along with HIV and AIDS testing were conducted by NSACS, the release stated.
Meanwhile, the Mokokchung DLSA conducted drawing competition to mark the day at Children's Home and Observation Home, Mokokchung under the theme ‘The world we live in.’ Altogether 12 participants took part in the competition and the winners were awarded with gift hampers and certificates. In Zunheboto, a cleanliness drive was conducted at the District Court Complex, Zunheboto with the participation of 23 court staff, prosecution staff and PI staff, the release stated.
