DIMAPUR, JANUARY 6 (MExN): The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) Nagaland unit has condemned the violence at Jawarhalal Nehru University campus on Sunday night when masked men armed with sticks and rods attacked students and teachers and damaged property in the campus.
In a press statement, NSUI Nagaland unit president, X Chophika Sumi alleged that the dastardly attack was done by “ABVP goons who went on a rampage inside the campus armed with rods, sticks and stones with their faces covered under the cover of darkness while chanting provocative slogans.”
Stating that the attack on JNU students and faculties is an attack on the entire students of India, where the ABVP goons mercilessly thrashed even the girl students, the Union wish to know if this is what ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ meant which PM Modi envisaged.
The Union further expressed shock at the apathy of the Delhi Police who it alleged did absolutely nothing to contain the situation. It only signifies the nexus between the perpetrators and the police which is directly under the command of the Union Home Ministry, the Union added.
Expressing sympathy and support to the JNU students and faculties at this hour of grief, the Union has appealed to the responsible authority to fast track the case to ensure speedy justice to the victims and also ensure stringent action against the perpetrators so that this type of thuggery doesn’t become a precedent.
