Dimapur, May 9 (MExN): The Naga Tribal Union Chümoukedima Town (NTUCT) on Saturday shared a number of concerns on situations arising out of the COVID-19 lockdown in the state.
In a press release issued on May 9, the NTUCT extended its support to the demands made by various civil society organizations and political parties on the roll-back of the COVID Cess and said that the cess
“is not in the interest of the public contrary to their claims and justification.” The decision of imposing cess on petrol and diesel is directly impacting the common people which are adding more woes to the people, it said, while requesting the state government to roll-back the cess “before the issue explodes out of proportion.”
The NTUCT also urged upon the government to redouble their efforts in sealing the borders for prevention of cross border movement. “The transmission of the deadly corona virus pandemic is looming large day by day specially those villages bordering with Assam as we have lots of porous points where illegal immigrants are fuming to sneak in under the cover of darkness,” the NTUCT stated in the release.
Further, the Union also sought attention on the “deteriorating situations” faced by the Nagas stranded in other parts of the country. “Our government failed to evacuate even a single person from outside the state unlike their counterparts,” it stated.
The NTUCT meanwhile acknowledged the Angami Thehouba for filing and RTI against the state government and the medical department to know whether transparency and laid down procedures were maintained while procuring articles related to COVID-19 pandemic and their decision to “sue the responsible person(s) and department” in the court of law.
“Anybody found guilty of misusing people’s money in a situation like this should be outrightly condemned as anti-people, persona-non-grata and punished as per the provision of the law,” it stated.
In conclusion, the NTUCT expressed gratitude to the state government for putting its best efforts in the fight against the pandemic. “We salute all the frontline personnel. It is because of your timeless sacrifices Nagaland is till safe and COVID-19 negative till date,” it stated.
