NVCO urges govt to frame regulations for consumer protection

Kohima, March 1 (MExN): As India approaches the first World Consumer Rights Day under the Consumer Protection Act 2019 which came into force on July 2020, the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) has urged the state government to immediately frame necessary rules and regulations for the implementation the Act in Nagaland.

In a press release on Monday, the NVCO also announced a two week long campaign starting March 2 to address consumer rights issues in the state. The celebration will conclude on World Consumer Rights Day, March 15, it stated.

The release stated that the Consumer International, a membership organisation for consumer groups across the globe has announced ‘Tackling Plastic Pollution’ as the theme for this year. The NVCO’s campaign will raise awareness and engage consumers globally to adopt and promote more sustainable practices, it added.

Further, the NVCO noted that the theme is appropriate and important for Nagaland, and urged the civic bodies, state government departments, churches, civil societies, tribal hohos, etc., to join hands in the fight against plastic pollution in their respective towns. It also urged the district/sub-division level consumer voluntary organisations in the state to take advantage of the event to reduce plastic pollution in order to promote and protect the environment.
