Peren, June 9 (MExN): As part of the union activities 2019, Peletkie Students' Union (PSU) organized a plantation drive at its reserve forest at Peletkie village under Peren district on June 8 under the theme, "One student, one tree."
A press release from PSU President Paulamlungbe and General Secretary, Pauziediebe Kenn stated the drive was held with regard to one of the PSU golden jubilee (December 2018) resolutions to protect the environment and with an aim to restore the deteriorating environment and global warming, which has been a threat to human existence due to deforestation and other human activities.
Keeping in mind the importance of environment friendly existence, this move was initiated by the union so as to sensitize villagers on the importance of environment protection which would be a boon to the villagers in particular and the Nagas in general.
Various species of tree saplings like hollock, neem, stinky beans, Sunari, cherry, two species of pine, etc were planted in the students' reserve forest to increase the number of trees. The release said that the reserve forest was donated by the Peletkie Village Council on the request of the union to maintain reserve forest in the village for conservation of natural resources and protection of environment.
Tree saplings were provided by Peren forest range and Jalukie forest range.
Earlier, the plantation drive began with a prayer offered by President of Peletkie Baptist Church, youth department. President of Peletkie Village youth organization was also present.
Around 200 tree saplings were planted, wherein around 40 students and other volunteers from the village participated in the plantation drive, which was followed by lunch and a word of gratitude was delivered by PSU President, Paulamlungbe.
