DIMAPUR, JULY 23 (MExN): Police have detained one suspect in connection with the rape and murder of a 20-year old girl which occurred at Kirha village, 3rd Mile (Airport Road), Dimapur on Wednesday last. According to inputs from reliable sources one non-local believed to be in his twenties was arrested on Saturday, July 23 from Dimapur. Only a day after the discovery of the rape and subsequent murder of the victim, Avino - police had pinned their sights on two possible suspects on Saturday. Police had not disclosed the identities of the suspects as it may hamper investigation and eventually capturing them.
Whether the detained suspect, who is currently under police remand, is one of the two suspects investigators had earlier set their sights on could not be confirmed. Investigators, it is learned are on the hunt for two other suspects who are absconding. It is also yet to be ascertained whether the detained suspect was directly involved or had aided the perpetrators in committing the ghastly crime. Further, according to information received one person linked to the rape of a minor (girl), which occurred last week has been arrested.
