IMPHAL | March 20
The Manipur government’s move of opening quarantine facilities in schools nearby Imphal Airport received strong objections from the locals on Friday.
For control and prevention of the risk of potential spread of COVID-19, five quarantine facilities and four isolation facilities have been identified in Imphal West district administration. The five quarantine facilities are HRD Academy, Ghari Awang Leikai; Imphal Valley Academy, Ghari Makha Leikai; UNACCO School, Meitram Makha Leikai, Herbert School, Changangei Uchekon and Extra Edge School, Ghari Awang Leikai.
The intake capacity of these quarantine facilities is 50 each as informed by the district administration to the director of state Relief and Disaster Management on March 19.
The isolation facilities identified in the district are Shija Hospital and Research Centre, Raj Medicity, Imphal Hospital and Research Centre and Sky Hospital.
Denouncing the opening of the quarantine facilities in their areas, womenfolk of Ghari on Friday staged a protest against the government's move.
They demanded that the quarantine facilities must be kept to the places where government has identified as isolation facilities.
Giving reasons for their objection to government's move, a women leader alleged that the five schools identified as quarantine centres are located at the thickly populated areas.
She threatened of launching agitation if the state government goes ahead with its plan without addressing the concern of the local people.
