‘Opposition leader has set record straight’: NDPP

Dimapur, July 16 (MExN): The Nationalist Democratic People’s Party (NDPP) lauded the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) Sharingain Longkumer for dismissing the disqualification petition of the Naga Peoples Front (NPF) against its seven MLAs.

The NDPP also appreciated the Leader of Opposition (LoP) and former Chief Minister T R Zeliang for speaking the truth and stating that “the Speaker has done fairly; for the first of its kind which was never done in the past.”

The LoP’s observations put on record the fact that the Speaker has upheld justice, according to the press release issued by the NDPP media cell on Thursday.

The NDPP said that Zeliang’s statement also highlights the fact that in the past, justice was not delivered.  “With the Leader of Opposition categorically stating that the proceedings were held in a fair manner for the first time in NLA history, he has straightened the record and acknowledged the partisan conduct of his own party Speaker in the past,” NDPP said, recalling the disqualification of 4 BJP legislators by the NPF Speaker in the 12th NLA, a decision which was later overturned by the Court.

Stating that the Speaker had delivered justice, the NDPP also said that the matter was not prolonged, but rather, judgement was given without any delay.

It maintained that sufficient opportunities were given to all concerned parties in an equitable manner without any sign of favouritism towards any party, and said that the Speaker “has exemplified the foundations on which the NDPP stands”-justice and fairness.
