Option For Traffic Jams In Town

•-In the interest of the Public, mutually beneficial measures must be evolved in regards to vehicular parking in the towns and the resultant traffic jams. The owners of the buildings could convert the road level spaces into paid parking areas instead of making them only into shop sites. But, unless the roads are declared ‘No Parking Zones’ by the Authority, the paid parking facility will not be availed despite the security to the vehicle it ensures. The pre-condition therefore entails for a possible optional policy by the Government. The Municipal Authorities could perhaps lease identified buildings for creating paid parking slots and declare strict ‘Tow Away Zones’, around such parking facilities. Without such facilities the woes of traffic congestion cannot be eased; it can only increase with the passage of time and the growth of population. In some cities like parts of Kohima and Dimapur, where multi-storeyed buildings have lined up, without the proportionate parking space, the only scope left is for creating a parking slot within the building itself. It is these sky-rise buildings that are often responsible for the extra chaos and congestions.
