Dimapur, September 1 (MExN): The first Combined Induction Programme under the Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY) 2.0 since its launch on April 1, 2025, was held at Town Hall, Dimapur on September 1, with over 200 rural youth from across Nagaland participating.
DDU-GKY is a fully funded, placement-linked residential skill development programme aimed at equipping rural youth with industry-relevant skills and enabling them to access sustainable employment opportunities.
Addressing the gathering, the Mission Director, Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM), encouraged the trainees to remain committed to their training and view it as the beginning of their journey towards self-reliance.
The Mission Director said DDU-GKY is currently the only residential skilling and placement programme fully sponsored by the Central and State Governments and being implemented at scale in Nagaland. The trainees were urged to make full use of the opportunity, complete their training and assessments, and move towards employment.
The Mission Director also called upon Project Implementing Agencies (PIAs) to ensure quality training and suitable placements for rural youth, stating that their commitment was crucial to the success of the programme and Nagaland's achievements at the national level.
The programme featured the success story of Kevirenu Kera, who progressed from DDU-GKY training to her first placement in the hospitality sector and later to an international career. She is currently working as a Dining Steward with Cunard Cruise Line, UK.
Kera credited the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and NSRLM, Government of Nagaland, for their support. She encouraged the trainees to "embrace challenges, believe in themselves, and seize every opportunity."
New trainees Thejasituo Sale and Ruokuokhrienuo Miario also shared their aspirations and plans following the training. They said the programme was providing them with aviation-related knowledge as well as skills in communication, discipline, professionalism and confidence.
The trainees expressed gratitude for the opportunities created for rural youth to acquire skills, build confidence, become self-reliant and pursue meaningful careers.
The programme concluded with an appeal to the trainees to pursue their training with patience and dedication as they begin a new phase of life from dependence towards self-reliance.
