DIMAPUR, JULY 21 (MExN): The Peace Channel organized a three day Inter-School Peace Activities (summer camp) cum Peace and Peace Building workshop at North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) Conference Hall, Bishop house Dimapur, under the theme “Passion for excellence.”
It was held with an objective to continue re-enforcement of the realization among the Quality Peace Club members that they are peace activist even when they are outside the school environment and to understand the concept of Peace, Peace building and youth as a peace builder in the Naga Society.
Speaking on the occasion Rev. Fr. John Poji, Vice Principal of North East Institute of Social Sciences and Research (NEISSR) as a special guest appreciated the organizers for giving a platform to the younger generation in the field of peace building. He also exhorted the participants by stressing on “Harmony and Peaceful Society”. He mentioned how our society has grown from bad to worst in just a few years and how the concept of love and brotherhood has disappeared. He urged the students to keep contributing in every possible way to make our society a better place to live in.
The programme dealt with different topics on “Peace and Peace Building” led by Vikhuli Achumi basing on the concept of “Being Human, love and support everyone despite of our differences because at the end we are all the same – Human Beings”. She even stressed on Peace building and qualities necessary for a peace builder. Mr. Henry took a session on “Passion for Excellence”.
He urged the students to develop a thirst for knowledge, love and peace in order to bring change in the society and told the students that this sense of thirst and carving can be developed by loving or falling in love with what you do. He even added that we must set a goal, have a joy of learning, accumulate as much knowledge as possible, be a doer, be innovative, be bold, be co-operative and be an agent of peace.
David Mhathung, the Project Co-ordinator took a session on “Leadership Skills”. He stressed on leadership, meaning/definition, qualities of a good leader, skills required for a good leader. He even involved the participants into different exercises which helped the participants to learn more about leadership skills through the exercises. John took a session on “Unity in Diversity”. He emphasized on the concept that every individual is different and every individual has an important role to play.
The programme included different activities such as group work & presentation, flag making and explaining the concept, debate, extempore speech, Ice- Breaking session, creativity show, peace celebration, movie screening, cultural festival to promote peace among different culture and religion.
The programme started with an invocation prayer by Sr. Clare, welcome address from David Mhathung, Project Coordinator and introductory session from Patrick W. Tungoe.
The three days camp concluded with a vote of thanks by the District Co-ordinator followed by a benediction by Rev. Fr. John Poji. The program was attended by Quality Peace Club members from different schools in Dimapur along with their teacher animators, well- wishers and others peace activist.
