Dimapur, October 19 (MExN): Peace Channel conducted an awareness programme at St John Higher Secondary School, Dimapur on October 19.

The session began by introduction of Peace channel by Katini Eshena, Researcher of peace channel where she spoke about its inception, activities and objectives that is to make them understand about the peace movement, the importance of peace, and to promote peace awareness among their peers, family and locality also the roles of peace clubs and the importance of peer mediation.

Resource person of the programme, Nepuni Paul spoke on the types of conflict which the young people will face and the challenges which he faced as a youth while making decisions about life and careers.

Conflict is a common thing among people and the youth will always face challenges starting from their careers, friends, education, families and that failure is a common thing, Paul held.

“But it is how each individual deal with failures and setbacks.” The resource person told the students that one will always be judged by the decisions that one takes from families, friends and society.

“The constant conflicting decisions we have to undertake as youth are going to be challenging so we need to acquire decision making skills to let there be peace in our lives.”

He also urged the students to not always go with the current trend in the society “where we think marks and science is the only way to excel and to move ahead,” but instead to recognise one’s talent in different fields be it in crafting, sports or music.

All we need is to belief in the talents we have and work towards making a living and a career which makes us happy and satisfied.

The programme concluded with Alino Chishi, project animator of Peace Channel sharing the 7 pillars of peace – to speak with a positive attitude, speak with compassion, speak with confidence, speak the truth, speak informatively, speak useful things, speak to the right people at the right time and right place.
