What happened on the 6th of September in Phek District speaks volume of the intention of the GOI. We only need to remind ourselves that our sincerity has been once again violated by the agent of the Indian Government, this time the 7th Assam Rifles stationed in Phek.
Interestingly, this para military forces used the slogan “FRIENDS OF THE HILL PEOPLE” to remind us that they are sheep in wolves clothing to terrorize the peace loving people and this time on the most significant day where our nation was in solemn celebration of the Peace Day, they came marching to destroy the very symbol of peace. The historic Naga Cease-fire which falls on 6th September was made a reality by the hard working team of Peace Mission instituted by the NBCC in 1964. It was a hard earned peace an epitome of Indo-Naga Ceasefire. It was hard earned, because our leaders realized that weapons and wars, intimidation and suppression cannot bring solution. And therefore, it was on this day the 6th of September 1964 that we agreed upon the pact of ceasefire between both the parties (the Indians and the Nagas) at Happy Camp which was established in 1962 at Ketsapo Village in Phek District. The Ketsapo villagers never considered it a burden to sponsor the celebration of ceasefire. Their wealth and riches, labor and sacrifices were never a thing they counted. Generously, the villagers hosted the celebration by donating hundred bags of rice and other choicest live-animals on that very day to commemorate an achievement. Wherein, in that celebration the Tatar Hoho declared the Indo-Naga Ceasefire. To this day, Happy Camp is revered as a sacred place for peace building. This is where we pledged ourselves to God and to the nation to stand by what is honorable and what is just in the path of peace.
To this day, the Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day of 1964 is commemorated every year to remind every Naga in general and the national workers in particular to pursue peace and safeguard the Naga Nation and to uphold the Naga National Rights and strive to free the Naga Nation from Indian occupation through Non-Violence.
The Naga National movement have gone through time-tested trials and tribulations and today, as we are beginning to see a ray hope in our struggle through the initiative of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) by bringing the Nagas together to the table of agreement through reconciliation between brothers and brothers so that we can make our forward movement in one accord, NNC/FGN has also become part of this movement agreeing upon with others that reconciliation is the only path for the Nagas. NNC/FGN was part of the Covenant of Reconciliation (COR) and also a party to the High Level Commission. We are committed to reconciliation and we shall seek to work with the Nagas that will honor of rights and freedom no matter what it may take. It was on the 6th September,2011,when Naga Peace Centre, and NNC/FGN and the rest of the Nagas were solemnly observing the Indo-Naga Ceasefire Day, when we got the unfortunate news that the Happy Camp of NNC/FGN at Ketsapo Village was burnt down to ashes by the 7th Assam Rifle. The seemingly friends of the hill people became a monster to the Nagas once again.
This shameful act of 7th Assam Rifle is nothing less than a barbaric challenge to the Peace and Reconciliation Movement of the Naga National Political Groups. The guardian of Law and Order as they say have turned out to be the fountain-head of emitting hatred and animosity among the peace loving Nagas. We will not be restrained to ask the 7th Assam Rifles though we presume that they may not have learnt to read the written language: What has bothered you so much so as to destroy and burn down the Happy Camp? Is that your way of befriending other people? Has not the Government of India provided furniture that on this Peace Day you went to loot even the furniture’s that belong to the Church? How low can you stoop to disgrace the civilized world? It is therefore time that you remove and tear down your slogan “FRIENDS OF THE HILL PEOPLE” and put on your real mask of terrorizing the Nagas and face the reality!
We also want to ask certain mind troubling questions to the very authorities:
i) Where is the District Administration in all this action? Can you remain silent and not know part of you moving around in such action gear?
ii) When the perpetrators yielded that they are following the high command! Is the Para military referring to the state Government? This allegation is a serious breach of authority because the para-military is supposedly to be under the control of the state government.
Let those who instigate this action against the Happy Camp at Ketsapo village on 6th of September 2011, come out clean with their motif so that we can also reason with them as civilized being. Until that time, the 7th Assam Rifle should put on terror face so that we will not be deceived of your intention for the Nagas.
