Peren District Task Force to speed up testing

Peren, July 18 (MExN): Following the detection of a COVID-19 positive case from among non-healthcare frontline workers on July 17, the Peren District Task Force on COVID-19 adopted a number of agendas that include segregation and speeding up testing of frontline workers.

Updates from the DIPR informed that the Task Force held an emergency meeting on receipt of the RT-PCR and TrueNat reports on July 17. DTO, Dr Supongmenla Walling, is said to have briefed the house on the results of the testing conducted on the front-line workers. As per the DIPR, Dr Walling informed that on July 15 there were two TrueNat positive results on those non-healthcare frontline workers and after doing an immediate contact tracing, samples were sent for confirmation.  Subsequently, the results received on July 17 showed that one among the TrueNat positive was negative while the other needed re-testing.

However, 1 contact was confirmed as COVID-19 positive by RT-PCR and immediately shifted to the COVID Hospital, the DIPR report stated.

Dr Supongmenla also apprised the house that further testing of contacts has shown that there are 8 TrueNat positives: four from cooking team, two security personnel, one driver and one from containment zone duty.

As such, the Task Force resolved that immediate shifting and segregation of the TrueNat positives have to be done. It also said that ICMR confirmation testing as well as contact tracing back to the last 1 week of duty shall be done.

Frontline workers including the cooking and catering team have also been directed not to leave their duty station till further directives.

Further, in case of high positives among the frontline workers, the Task Force said that JAC Peren shall support the contact tracing team with additional manpower. While matters relating to lockdown shall be discussed only after confirmatory results, all Sub-divisional Task Force and Sub-Divisional RRTs in Peren district shall be activated, it said.

Sample collection timing will also be fixed after proper discussion with all stakeholders. Tentative timing shall be between 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, the report stated.
