The Nagaland Police has suspended two IRB jawans, who were accused of firing in a public place in Peren town on January 16. According to official sources, one Havildar and a Constable were placed under suspension on January 17, while disciplinary proceedings were being contemplated under the Nagaland Services (Discipline & Appeal) Rules, 1967.

The charge against the havildar was “unwarranted firing in a busy marketplace… while on duty under the influence of alcohol…” and the charge against the Constable was “quarrelling with his superior officer under the influence of alcohol while on duty…”

According to another version of the incident, there was a squabble between two IRB personnel allegedly in an inebriated state during which one of their service rifles went off alarming the residents. This version stated that only one shot was fired.
