DIMAPUR, JANUARY 16 (MExN): Several civil society organizations from Peren have condemned a firing incident involving two IRB personnel at a market place in Peren town on January 16 at around 1:30-2:00pm.
This was stated in a joint statement from the Ward Chairman Union Peren Town Chairman, Tingbapeung Ndang; Peren Town Youth Organisation president, Nduzeu; Zeliangrong Mipui Organisation president, Apeuna Ihelung; Peren Town Women Welfare Organisation, Pelingrangle; and Head GB of the Peren Town Gaonbura Union, Paurang Rangkua
The statement alleged that the two personnel were in an inebriated state “leading to rampant firing in the busy market place and endangering the lives of the public and innocent bystanders and passersby.”
“Police personnels are supposed to safeguard and protect the lives of the public and not endanger them,” it stated, and demanded that the Police Department terminate the two personnel from service. “Failing to terminate the services of the two erring IRB personnels by the higher authority within 72 hours, further form of agitation and protest will follow,” the organizations cautioned. It further stated that “any untoward incident arising out of it will solely be the responsibility of the concerned department and authority.”
Police meanwhile confirmed to The Morung Express that the firing incident did take place and assured that an inquiry into the incident was under process.
