The Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) today released a book titled “The Persistent Voice – A Students’ Quest for Self-Preservation” authored by Aso Imsong and Longrangty Longchar, which was formally released by Meyionen Jamir, president of Kohima Ao Officertem Telongjem at Hotel Whispering Winds. The book is a comprehensive documentation of the AKM’s “Survival Mokokchung” campaign and is a revised edition of the 2014 publication, “The Breached Walls – A Students’ Stance Against Illegal Bangladeshi Immigrants,” also on the same subject and authored by the same writers.


‘The Persistent Voice’ includes six chapters as well as the unabridged edition of ‘The Breached Walls’ and is priced at Rs.500 apiece. The printing costs of ‘The Persistent Voice’ was sponsored by KAOT. Excerpts of interviews with Prof. Kalyan Das of Omeo Kumar Das Institute, Guwahati, Dr. Walter Fernandez of North Eastern Social Research Centre, Guwahati, North East Students’ Organization (NESO) advisor Dr. Samujjal Bhattarcharya, Dr. SC Jamir, Rev. Dr. Wati Aier and other are incorporated in ‘The Persistent Voice.’


AKM president Imkongwati while speaking at the book release today thanked the authors, KAOT and all well- wishers for the successful publication of The Persistent Voice and said that its publication was necessitated to take the message of “Survival Mokokchung” to a wider readership on a broader scope. The authors also spoke at the function during which they narrated how they brought about the book under the pressure of time constraint and also acknowledged the well-wishers who helped them along the whole process. They also expressed appreciation to the AKM leadership for bestowing on them the trust and confidence to write the second book.


KAOT president Meyionen Jamir while addressing the gathering after releasing the book congratulated AKM as well as the authors on the successful publication of the book. He testified that the “business community complexion” has changed in Mokokchung where the locals have taken up most of the businesses since AKM launched its “Survival Mokokchung” campaign in 2007. He, however, said that further evaluations needed be done for further course of action while appreciating AKM for their persistence in keeping the momentum of the campaign going. He also suggested AKM to organize a special conclave to be attended by all stakeholders of the Ao community to chart a plan for the future.
