Dimapur | August 24
With the Public Sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) revising fuel prices downward again on August 24, the cost of petrol fell just below Rs 100 a litre in Nagaland’s commercial capital Dimapur, over a month and one week after crossing the record breaking threshold on July 15.
Petrol prices were slashed across the State by 13-14 paise on Tuesday amid declining global crude oil prices.
With this, a litre of petrol was retailing at Rs 99.99 in Dimapur on August 24, down from Rs 100.12, the previous day. The highest recorded price of a litre of petrol in Dimapur was Rs 100.36 on July 17.
Likewise, diesel prices were reduced by 15 paise across Nagaland and a litre of diesel in Dimapur decreased from Rs 91.15 on Monday to Rs 91.00 on Tuesday.
In all other districts, however, petrol prices are still above the Rs 100 per litre. (See Table)
According to IANS news agency, after remaining static since July 18, oil prices were revised for the first time in for 35 days on August 22.
However, as reported earlier by The Morung Express, there were intermittent changes in fuel prices during the intervening period in Nagaland, including a marginal reduction across the board on August 1.
Incidentally, while fuel prices decreased across the country on August 22, there was a departure in the State with some districts witnessing reduction and increase in prices in others.
Petrol prices in Nagaland first breathed the psychological Rs 100-a-litre mark in Tuensang and Kiphire on June 26 and across the State on July 15, with Dimapur joining other districts in reaching the threshold.
In Tuensang, where fuel is costliest in Nagaland, a litre of petrol and diesel were retailing at Rs 103.37 and Rs 94.01 respectively on August 24.
According the Union Ministry of Petroleum and Gas, while the retail price is fixed by the OMCs on the basis of 15 days rolling average price of petrol and diesel in the international market, there is also an impact of the rupee dollar exchange rate.
Several others factors determine the final retail prices including central and state taxes including cess, dealer’s commission, and freight charges.
