PHEK, AUGUST 8 (MExN): The Viksit Bharat Yuva Connect Programme 2025, featuring a district-level debate competition, was held at Phek Government College here on August 6.

The event was organised by the NSS Unit and Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the college in collaboration with the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.

Deputy Commissioner of Phek, Rhosietho Ngouri, said he was privileged to be part of the programme and to interact with young minds. He noted that in the journey towards making India a developed nation by 2047, the youth were equal stakeholders. Urging them to drive innovation, he emphasised that discipline was the foundation for achieving aspirations.

In her welcome address, Vice Principal Shepalu Suyie described the event as a celebration of ideas and democratic engagement. She underscored the vital role of youth in shaping the nation’s future and encouraged them to use the platform to express, challenge, and explore new perspectives.

District Youth Resource Officer Chubarenla Longchari called youth “changemakers” and said the Yuva Connect Programme provided opportunities for skill development, urging them to be active agents of change.

The debate, on the topic “Emergency Period in India was Justified and Necessary”, saw students present arguments from both sides. The session was moderated by B.A. fifth semester student Rebecca Thapa, with Dr Zhokusheyi Rhakho, Assistant Professor in the Department of History, serving as critic.

Shetsolu Keyho and Kozo Venuh were adjudged best debaters. Judges included Dr Levinu Sakhrie (Political Science), Dr Shurhonuo Tsurho (English) and Neiwe Mero (Economics).

The programme, chaired by Vemutulu Vero of B.A. fifth semester, began with an invocation by Dzuthono Vero. A folktune performance by students, under the supervision of Vezholu Teseo and Mutsikulu Vero, added a cultural note to the event.
