Dimapur, July 25 (MExN): The Dimapur police has arrested an NNC cadre and another person for extortion, who, interestingly, were on bail in connection with two other recent cases of extortion in Dimapur. The two extortionists were extorting money from a shop at MP Road, police said.
The office of the Superintendent of Police, Dimapur, issued a press release today. The police said Special Branch personnel of Dimapur on surveillance noticed two persons moving about suspiciously around the Deluxe Point areas. The two persons have been identified as one “ss raja peyu” of NNC Khuluto Sema, 30 years of Lizumi village in Zunheboto and the other, a “ss raja peyu” of NNC Ato Chophy, 30 years of Khumishe village of Suruhoto, and resident of 4th mile in Dimapur.
They were extorting from a shop at MP road when the police arrested them, police said. Illegal “tax information slips” and Rs. 5, 400 of extorted money were confiscated from their possession, Police informed. On interrogation, the accused admitted to extorting Rs. 2, 000 each from the shops in the said areas, the authorities said.
Interestingly, the police informed, the accused were free on bail in connection with two recent cases of extortion. Earlier on May 24 this year, the Special Operations Team of the police had arrested Khuluto Sema alias Khuluto Zhimo and an accomplice, one Puluto Sema, 34 years of Laghilato village in Zunheboto.
The two were extorting money from the shops in the Hong Kong market areas in the name of NNC, police said.
Likewise, the police said, on June 24, troops of the 24 Assam rifles had arrested the said Ato Chophy alias Ato Sema for possession of what was stated to be a “tax receipt book” of so-stated “ministry of chaplee affairs” of the NNC. They were forward to judicial custody, the two obtained bail from the court and continued with their extortion activities before their arrest today, police said. The police have registered a “case” in this connection.
