All the political parties in Nagaland have been requested to extend cooperation in the conduct of Special Summary Revision of Photo electoral rolls with reference to January 1, 2019 as the qualifying date as announced by Election Commission of India.
Kohima Additional Deputy Commissioner and Electoral Registration Officer Lithrongla Tongpi Rutsa said at a meeting with Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), political party representatives and media here at DC Conference Hall.
Representatives from Naga People’s Front, Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party and Bharatiya Janata Party attended the meeting.
Rutsa requested the political parties to go through the draft electoral roll and if there is any bogus enrolment or person expired, shifted or illegally enrolled, it may be brought to the notice of BLOs and AEROs for deletion.
She said that for any claims and objections, it has to be corrected during the period for filing claims and objections between September 11 and October 31 this year.
She also requested the political parties to see if there are any left out voters who will complete 18 years of age by January 1, 2019. They can be enrolled this time in order to let them exercise their franchise in the coming elections.
She requested the political parties to create awareness with the residents/electors to go to their respective polling stations during the two-day Special Campaign that will be held on September 22 and October 31 to carry out the necessary connections if required.
Informing the requirement of appointed Booth Level Agents from the political parties, Assistant Election Officer Toshimeren requested the political parties to appoint their respective Booth Level Agents wherever feasible, if not in every polling station, so as to assist the BLOs and also to ease the counter checking balance during the election process.
He also informed that creation of three polling stations have been approved, one each in Forest colony, P. Khel and Chedema making a total of 226 polling stations for Kohima district.
Later, a copy of the publication of Integrated Draft Electoral Roll was handed out to the political parties. The meeting was followed by training/briefing for the AEROs.
Nagaland’s Chief Electoral Officer Abhijit Sinha on Monday requested all the political parties and citizens to take a pro-active role and extend all possible help to the entire election machinery of the State in preparation of an accurate and error-free electoral roll.
