‘Pollution Under Control’ certificate compulsory

Kohima, October 11 (DIPR): To control the vehicular emission level, the Central Government has prescribed that every motor vehicle should obtain a certificate of ‘Pollution Under Control.’ Rule 115 (7) of Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 prescribe that ‘After expire of a period of one year from the date on which the motor vehicle was first registered, every such vehicle shall carry a valid ‘ Pollution Under Control’ certificate issued by agencies authorized by the State Government. The validity of the certificate shall be for six (6) months and the certificate shall always be carried in the vehicle and produced on demand by the officer on duty’. 

It is therefore, brought to the notice of all vehicle owners that obtaining Pollution Under Control Certificate is compulsory and should be produced for inspection. Failing to do so would constitute an offence punishable for the first offence with a fine of Rs. 1000/- and for the second and subsequent offence with a fine of Rs. 2000/- under section 190 (2) of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
