Power Dept raid: Thieves ‘penalized’

Dimapur, September 9 (MExN): Raids against power thieves were taken out by a Special Task Force (SIT) consisting of the district administration, police and Dimapur power department in Dimapur on the 8th at several areas. The department of power did not specify how many defaulters were penalized but said “many” were “heavily penalized”.  A note from the executive engineer of Dimapur division Nitovi A Wotsa did not specify what the ‘heavy penalty’ was. Power theft is an offense under Section 379 of the Indian Penal Code and is punishable by imprisonment up to 3 years or a fine or with both. The SIT raided the 5th, 6th and 7th mile areas in Dimapur. “During the raid, many unauthorized connections were detected and the defaulters were heavily penalized followed by signing a good behavior bond not to repeat the offense in future” Wotsa stated.
