Project Care for education & HIV/AIDS launched

Kohima: In a significant development, the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) today joined the network of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) and Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS) by undertaking  ‘Project Care’ to spread the message of universalization of elementary education and danger of HIV/AIDS.  

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Education Minister Imkong L Imchen were present during the launching ceremony of Project Care, an undertaking of the NSF, supported by the SSA and NSACS in the Zonal Council Hall this morning.

Minister for School Education Imkong L Imchen lauded the NSF for taking up the Project and termed it as a big challenge for social change. He called on the NSF to make the project more constructive, productive and with a clear vision to make a difference in people’s life.

Commissioner and Secretary, Health and Family Welfare, Temjen Toy in his speech warned of the major scourge of HIV/AIDS which is increasingly affecting the general populace at an alarming rate.

The NSF has taken the project as a challenge, said NSF President Phusika Aomi and further pointed out that it would focus on “Come to school, learn” adding only through education the nation can progress.

He said Project Care came into being by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with SSA and NSACS. He gave a commitment to work for compulsory education within the age group of 6 – 14 years and to achieve education for all. 

The regional coordinators, comprising 54, would focus on enrolment drive, formation of Red Ribbon Clubs in every village to fight against HIV/AIDS and create adequate awareness on the danger of HIV/AIDS and prevent it from spreading further, Aomi said.

Earlier, Sashi Mar chaired the function while K. Elu Ndang tendered vote of thanks.
