Kohima, April 6 (MExN): The State’s Evaluation department has proposed to conduct several evaluation studies including job opportunities for employment of non-Nagas in the organized/ unorganized sector in Nagaland.
During 2006-07, the department would also conduct evaluation study on impact of assistance from Chief Minister’s Corpus Fund on employment generation, impact of STD control programme, impact of AIDS awareness programmes in Nagaland, Health programmes in Nagaland, Swarna Jayanti Sahari Rojgar Jojana (SJSRY) in Nagaland, Slum development, Landslide control in Nagaland, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyam (SSA) in all districts, impact on Communitisation programme.
Further, the agriculture marketing in Nagaland, Indira Awas Jojna (IAY) in Nagaland, Integrated Rural Energy programme (IREP) in Nagaland and Pradhan Mantri Gramodhaya Yojana (PMGY) in Nagaland, according to the annual administrative report of the department.
During 2005-06, the department had undertaken evaluation studies on Local Area Development Programme in Nagaland. There are six ongoing studies - Border Area Development Programme in Nagaland, National Old Age Pension in Phek District (Both Central and State), Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Phek district, Quality of Science Education in High Schools in the state, Sericulture development programme in Nagaland and Communitisation of health institutions in Zunheboto district.
It may be recalled that the main functions of the evaluation department is to carry out evaluation studies, on various plan/non plan schemes/programmes of the government and to suggest ways and means to bring about improvement in their formulation and execution.
The District Evaluation Offices (DEO) conduct verification studies at the instance of respective District Planning and Development Boards and submit reports to them, the report said. The DEO also carry out evaluation studies, undertake field visits and collect primary data as may be required by the departments.
Meanwhile, realizing the importance of undertaking evaluation studies, several proposals were received for setting up District Evaluation Offices in the newly created districts.
On this basis, the report said, proposal for creation of District Evaluation Office at Dimapur was submitted. This has already been cleared by the concerned departments and is now with the cabinet cell for approval “Hence the District Evaluation Office in Dimapur district is expected to materialize soon,” the Report added.
