Maligaon, May 1 (MExN): Member (Infrastructure), Railway Board, Vivek Kumar Gupta on Friday visited the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) and held a review meeting at Maligaon to assess the progress of ongoing infrastructure and development projects across the zone.

The meeting was attended by NFR general manager Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, general manager (construction) Ashish Bansal and other senior officials. Discussions focused on key infrastructure initiatives, project timelines and strategies to expedite execution for strengthening railway connectivity in the Northeast.

As part of his visit, Gupta is scheduled to undertake a window trailing inspection on May 2 from Kamakhya to Dimapur to review track conditions, safety measures and infrastructure status along the route.

Upon reaching Dimapur, he will review the progress of the Dimapur–Kohima new line railway project, along with other ongoing works in the state.

During the meeting, officials reviewed the status of major infrastructure projects, including the Jiribam–Imphal, Sivok–Rangpo and Murkongselek–Pasighat railway lines, with emphasis on accelerating their execution.

The Northeast Frontier Railway has made notable progress in recent years, including connecting Mizoram’s capital to the national rail network for the first time through the Bairabi–Sairang project, which was inaugurated in September last year.

Officials also highlighted the operationalisation of Molvom and Mendipathar stations for freight services, which has enhanced regional logistics and connectivity.

The visit reflects Indian Railways’ continued focus on strengthening infrastructure and improving connectivity in the Northeast region to support economic development and transportation needs.
