Of late there has been considerable media hype on the on-going Naga peace process. While some critics had been constructive, few were not more than a mere propaganda aimed at moulding public support to back its agendas.
The issue is entirely of the common Naga peoples’ aspiration and not factional, regional or tribal, therefore every major players and spectators must maintain similar perspective and push the wheel towards the logical and realistic conclusion that would ensure durability and sustainability.
The FNRs call for reconciliation has been positively endorsed by different political parties and whole heartedly being supported by almost every cross-section of the Naga society at large. It is felt that no problem is beyond compromise or resolution and particularly the issue being primarily domestic family crisis amongst the Nagas and the realisation of the inevitability to either confront and resolve (earlier the better) or to prolong and allow it to be a cause of our own demise. With the given dilemma it is observed thus-
The overall scenario demands for radical approach to be expedited but not necessarily hasty or desperate. Political expediency must not be confused with frantic situation of certain stakeholders needing urgent rescue.
The FNRs COR and journey of common hope had to significant extent endowed optimistic propagation of acceptable compromises and honourable merger on the basis of brotherhood, equality and ideologically- on the basis of historical and political rights of the Nagas. The FNR experimentation thus gained a thumping approval of almost absolute majority of the Nagas and even the foreign sympathisers.
In the history of Naga struggle, FNR unique reputation as the most trusted custodian empowered to intercede in the conflict may even be compared to the 99.9% votes garnered in favour of Naga independence in the Plebiscite of 1953. However, unfortunately, the later stages of FNRs political venture of exclusivity i ,e Naga National Government(selective of NNC/FGN, IM and Khehoi)perhaps tends to create certain misgivings and unwarranted suspicions on its credibility.
Despite such unfavourable tendencies, FNR is still expected to play a very crucial role of not only umpiring the on-going peace summits but to also constantly interject, monitor and ensure balancing act against any unwanted tilting. The most critical intervention that is promptly required of FNR in order to prevent relapse to bloody conflagration in particular is the unilateral abrogation of COR by Khehoi Campers through indulgence in provocative acts of arrests of NSCN/GPRN members, abduction and forced enrolment to its camp, seizure of Govt.properties, forceful confinement etc and which has become almost a routine affair.
Combative temptation and Martial unrest is becoming an issue of major concern in the Peoples Army formation owing to several unprovoked attack of comrades and compatriots at the hands of Khehoi Camp. More than Ten (10) NSCN/GPRN cadres has become victims of such insensitivity causing severe trepidation and annoyance to the NSCN endeavour of real reconciliation through compassion and humanitarian approach. It may be clarified by the FNR, whether Khehoi Camp is a part of COR or outside its purview? What are the suggestions or actions on the part of FNR to restrain Khehoi Camp from committing violation of the Peace Covenant ? and that NSCN/GPRN should not be held accountable for inevitable retaliation in equal measures, that any internecine killings while in the act of defence or offence by us henceforth needed to be viewed as forced by Khehoi and not willful.
